Peanut Butter Oreo Shakes

A lot of my recipes have been very nostalgic for me lately. Something about the summer, right? Does the summer do that to anyone else? As soon as it gets to those hotter days, my mind starts turning memories of being out late in the cool summer air, spending full days at the beach (we're talking 9am to sunset), roasting hot dogs until they were black, lounging by the lake, camping in the dirt, hanging with friends until 2am, and my favorite memory: Midnight Runs.

When I first moved out on my own, my friends and I would spend select Sunday evenings counting down until midnight. Why? Because once midnight hit, it wasn't Sunday anymore (trying to avoid "breaking the Sabbath"... yea yea I know... lol). That's when we were free to hit up our favorite late night spot, Harbor House Cafe in Sunset Beach, CA.

Harbor House is open 24/7 right on PCH, and while the food isn't something you'd necessarily need to write home about, their Cheese Fries were BOMB and their shakes were the perfect pick-me-up. My go-to shake? You guessed it; the Peanut Butter Oreo shake.

It's been years since I've had a "proper" Midnight Run to Harbor House, and how I've missed this perfect combo of sweet and salty. The thick ice cream is blended with Oreo bits and chunks, and mixed with perfectly smooth peanut butter, and it's the stuff dreams are made of. Sadly, the last time I went seeking this comforting drink of my memories, the prices had been raised INSANELY high (previously $4.99 for a shake, currently $7.99 for this perfect combination....), and it was no longer worth it to me. Something about being an adult and needing to afford you know... life.

BUT GUESS WHAT. This is RIDICULOUSLY easy to make and since the day I was betrayed by capitalism in the form of over-priced shakes, I've been soothing my cravings at home. And now I share this favorite memory of mine with you, and urge you to share in the tasty bliss.
